Obituary for David Cassiere

David Cassiere, a cherished husband, family member, friend, and community stalwart, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2024, in Toms River, NJ, at the age of 72. Born on February 20, 1952, in Teaneck, NJ, David, affectionately known as Dave by those who knew him best, lived a life marked by dedication, service, and kindness.

Dave grew up in Bergenfield, NJ, and after graduating from Bergenfield High School in 1970, he pursued further education at RCA where he earned his associate's degree. His academic achievements laid the foundation for a successful career at Verizon, where he began working in 1973. Dave's commitment and expertise led to his promotion to management in 1996 in the Advanced Telephone Network, where he played a pivotal role in developing innovative software that maintained operable phone lines without the need for physical wiring and buildings. His contributions were particularly significant following the events of 9/11, as his software played a crucial part in keeping communication lines open during a time of great need.

Outside of his professional life, Dave was deeply involved in volunteer work. From 1972 to 1985, he dedicated his time to the Bergenfield and Englewood Police Auxiliary, where he trained newcomers in police work and first aid. His passion for helping others extended to animal rescue, where he saved countless sick and injured animals, providing them with shelter and care. Dave's love for animals was matched by his love for his own pets, Anthony, Sammy, and Dasha Dolly, who brought him immense joy and companionship.

Dave's interests were diverse and reflected his commitment to community and country. He was a licensed amateur radio operator since 1968, holding a General Class license, and was an active member of the Beach Buggy Association. His passions for weather were also evident in his participation as a Basic Storm Spotter, having completed the necessary courses in 2022. A patriot at heart, Dave was a life member of the NRA and the ARRL. His musical talent shone through his lifelong practice of the violin, which he played since the fourth grade.

Those who knew Dave will remember him as a kind soul, always ready to lend a hand or offer support. His patriotism was not just a belief but a way of life, as he consistently put the needs of his community and country above his own. Dave's love for animals was not just a passion but a calling, as he tirelessly worked to ensure the well-being of all creatures great and small.

David is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Jane Cassiere, who was his partner in life and in all his endeavors. He leaves behind his cousins Peggy, Patty, Terry, Anthony, Bob, and Bonnie, as well as additional family members Lisa, Helen, and Henry Orr. His six brother-in-laws, along with many other beloved family members and friends, will miss his presence and the warmth he brought into their lives.

SENDING AGENCY/ * SP OPERATIONAL DISPATCH NJNSPO1T1 LAPD 033732 CM Heart attack claims avid 1st-aider at 34 Published in the Ocean County Observer 8/27/00 By JEAN MIKLE Staff Writer TOMS RIVER -- Other kids may have spent their summers on the beach or hanging on the boardwalk. But when John G. Glowacki was a boy, he spent many of his summer days at the East Dover First Aid Squad. "I first met John when he used to ride his bicycle by the first aid building when he was a little kid," said East Dover First Aid Capt. Edward Kropinack. "He was staying across the street from the first aid building and he said he couldn't wait to get on an ambulance. He was about 9 or 10 years old then." Glowacki, who joined East Dover First Aid as a cadet when he was 16 years old, died of a heart attack Wednesday, stunning his extended family of friends in the township's and county's emergency services community. Glowacki, 34, had been a member of the first aid squad for 18 years, a township fire dispatcher for 15, and an EMT instructor at Community Medical Center who had taught dozens of emergency medical technicians throughout the area. "This was his life, emergency services," said Kropinack. "We were really a big family that he was involved in. He touched a lot of lives." East Dover First Aid Sgt. Michael Caruso said he and Glowacki became fast friends after Caruso moved here from Elizabeth about 15 years ago. Glowacki was already deeply involved with the first aid squad, but Caruso had no interest in joining the squad until about 10 years ago, when Glowacki saved his father-in-law's life. Caruso said Glowacki performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on his father-in-law, Paul Partazana, reviving him. "My father-in-law had hardly any pulse," Caruso said. "John performed CPR on him and saved his life. That convinced me to become a volunteer first aider." In 1994, Caruso and Glowacki received a proclamation from the Dover Township Committee after they helped revive Steven Denbow, a 43-year-old New Hampshire man who nearly drowned while visiting a Morris Boulevard home. Denbow had been under water for about five minutes when a neighbor found him and began performing CPR. Caruso, Glowacki and Patrolman Brian Nesta arrived and helped revive Denbow, who made it to the hospital and survived. "That was what John did," Caruso said. "He saved lives. Unfortunately, the night he died, there was nothing we could do for him." Caruso said Glowacki was known as a great and patient teacher in his role as EMT instructor at Community. "John was really an inspiration for every EMT in the county of Ocean," Caruso said. In addition to his involvement with emergency services, Glowacki was deeply involved in the Jersey Shore Amateur Radio Society. Committeeman Clarence E. "Bud" Aldrich III, who serves as liaison to the first aid squad captains, said Glowacki was a "quiet, hard-working kid who would volunteer for anything."
